HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! [Jan. 5th, 2010|07:44 pm]

hyovans
1. It cuts my heart every time I tap my ez link card at the gantries or on the bus because my credits disappear so quickly! This is terribly tragic, especially since I travel so much. Sigh, well I guess it's not as bad as the tubes in London where the fares are like 3 pounds.

2. My Social Security Card finally arrived!!!!! I am finally a true blue AMERICAN, no more pseudo-American-wanabe-mere-passport holder, but A TRUE AMERICAN, with rights and welfare benefits and everything!! :) Finally, after the countless trips to the American embassy where I had to meet so many people and find so many documents and after inconveniencing so many people, ahhhhhhhhhhhh

3. Jakarta hol with fam 13-14

4.Cambodia 16th

5.Korea 18th - 15 FEB !!!!!!!!!! haven't been to korea in 6 years!! would you believe it, and I'm supposed to be a korean by ethnicity. Time to get in touch with my roots.

6. US applications are done! Ya, Br, St, Co, Ny, Am, Tu, Ch

SO EXCITED FOR 2010!!

i hate being back at home, where once again there are things to worry about, like:
psc
unpacking
work
swiss apps (eventually)
how to find time to catch up with my dramas
and
THE WEATHER.

i want to be back in london where it is cold and i have all the time in the world to finish watching the 129 episodes of cruel temptation.
and go to a market, or go for a walk along the south bank when i'm bored.

happy 2010, everyone! i don't really feel the need to blog anymore because it gets too tiring and, as i've told abby, i don't really like telling the world everything about me.

BUT OF COURSE. i have to say this:

for all of you who've wanted to know the meaning of my name (the query to which i have failed to answer, abysmally), uban dictionary does it really well -

'Simran' is a Sanskrit word derived from 'smaran' meaning: realization of that which is of the highest aspect and purpose in one's life.
Thus, also introducing spirituality.

Through the years, it has been adapted into many languages as a unisex name where it means: 1. Unforgettable - Someone who comes back to one's memory, time and time again. That upon whose contemplation one gets into an hypnotic state.
2. Remembrance*
3. Meditation*
4. God's gift

*Note: The definitions are not to be confused with the verbs: 'remembering' or 'meditating' as the name refers to the practice (i.e. the noun) and not the process of the act itself.

on the other hand, urban dictionary also provides another equally accurate definition of my name -

simran mean `s someone who is smart and cool . speacily nice
Also it mean god gift .
EG;
Tom : talk behind her back
Simran : i no u were talking behind my back but i don`t really care and still beiing nice

so now u no i don`t talk behind your back, okay?

:) take care, folks! this space is still mine for me to put up stupid and funny stuff!

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

today,
has been a good day.
1. my grand aunty arrived in london this morning. this means that she bought us a lot of food, and gave us money to spend.
2. i am in the midst of forming ice skating plans with han huirong in london. HAHA. i've never met so many friends overseas before
3. my brother and i went to borough market and spent a lot of money because all the food was too awesome. we found red onion marmalade and really awesome balsamic vinegar. and bought clementines while they were trying to clear stock.
4. i took a photo on millenium bridge at the same spot as last year's (: (:
5. i met titus at last, for great burgers, which i couldn't even finish unfortunately - but it was great fun
6. I AM GOING TO HAVE A DRAMA MARATHON TONIGHT because somehow my grand aunty can read my mind and she knows that i have been missing the eveningly channel u show while in the uk, and so she bought it and brought it here, WOW.

unfortunately, i lost one of my gloves today ): and i think they are really expensive gloves or something

new year's eve was great, it was the first time i've ever appreciated being in a crowd, i think. i got really excited when we were coming out of the station and i had to walk sideways because the crowd was so big and the exit so small. the greatest thing was when the crowd kept cheering spontaneously while we were walking to the riverside, it would start from the back and move to the front like a kallang wave - and of course the fireworks were spectacular, the london eye got really excited when it was nearing the hour and after that it started spewing fireworks all over the place.

AND it started snowing right after the fireworks uh huh (:

oh. happy new year everyone (:

[Current Music |New Radicals - Someday We'll Know]

I was impressed with myself today, truly. Picture this, being a country bumpkin you never knew that to travel to a foreign country, you need 6 months time to your expiry date in order for your passport to work. And no one said a thing, so i totally didnt know. Till jx told me on NYE, which by then was too late. Frantically, i asked around for help. Everyone said the same thing: Be the first guy to reach the ICA building. I went half an hour earlier, but being Singaporeans everyone exemplified the true spirit of kiasu-ness. There were so many role models in front of me. Lucky i was somewhere in the middle of the queue. When the gate opened, made a straight dash into the building, got the documents. The officer tried her very best to help me, but the conclusion soon surfaced, or so i realized. There was no way i could get to taiwan today. They also dont accept the travel document, which is uber cool seriously.

So, you could imagine how frustrated i was. At the very start, i felt so fucked, and i really wanted to know why the copy of my passport could make it through the JetStar registration. And to think there are so many adverts enticing you to head there. But nevermind, im gonna fly there on Monday or Tuesday, have since extended the trip. Cept that this is a painful lesson, half a grand down the drain, for nothing. What really impressed me, was that every single customer service officer, whether the ICA or JetStar personnels, they were really really friendly and patient, especially the lady at the JetStar Sales & Payment counter! Service was real good, that was consoling though. At the very end, i decided that i shouldnt let this affect the festive mood. So i went home to sleep, and went to play mj @ Zee's place, before i got a ride from him back.

Feeling so much better than this morning now, thanks y'all who tried to help me in every single way. Still 16 days away from my internship, am really excited as to what im gonna do there tho. Hope it'll be great fun!

[Current Mood | bouncy]

The year begins, with good company. Unconventional way to celebrate though, started off with a visit to the museum with my classmates, before a small steamboat dinner with 3 guys from s64! We had a lot to eat though, and i was the one eating most of the seafood because they simply refuse to hahaha. First time ever, no one's snatching the abalones from me HAHA. Cleared up the mess, watched jumper, and then Marley & Me. This show was great, in every aspect- the story, the cast, the emotions. Something that many can relate to for sure. And the best part of the night actually, was that jason bought brownies ( or so he thought ). Turns out its the baking powder. And so, i cracked the egg, jason greased the pan, jx mixed the stuffs. Here you have it, 3 guys baking in the middle of the night with no experience whatsoever.

Pictures up soon, after Taiwan, if i even get there. Thanks to y'all who helped me out, appreciate it. Lets see what tomorrow brings. 2010, hooray.

dear anybody who knows how to cook,
how come my pasta never seems to taste of garlic no matter how much garlic i use?!
i swear i used about 6 cloves today!
i just googled recipes online and they tell me to use 2 cloves in a recipe for 4 people.
this is ridiculous. is it because i am adding too much chicken and mushroom.

see what happens when you don't read cornell instructions properly and write a hotel supplement that's over a 1000 words and an A&S supp that's 900 words and realise the day before they're due that they're supposed to be 500 words.

today,
we had miserable weather in bath.
still, it was great to visit the place again especially since the only thing i remember from very long ago is the bath. or baths, because i thought there were more than one
i really like these quaint english cities / towns like winchester (where i went yesterday, in the rain too) and bath and stratford, with the cold weather and high streets without any cars

today i also saw a SEGA office with sonic the hedgehog proudly occupying the facade, it was cool

today i also took a 3 hour bus ride back from bath to london, WITH SUPER JUNIOR'S SORRY SORRY IN MY HEAD ALL THE WAY
on the way to bath, i saw a lot of English pastoral

today, i am realising that my skin will have a very hard time if i end up studying in a cold dry country.

finally, TODAY, I SAW TITUS HA HA we took great pains to meet up in bath

and tonight, i am home alone. ): ):

I'm glad 2009's coming to an end.
It's been rough, to say the least.
But I'm going to end it right, with the 5 things I'm thankful for. )

Don't end your year with anger, disappointment, hurt, or anything negative.
And don't start '10 with fear either.
Be bold.
Thanks for reminding me, Rachel.

Enjoy your 31st everyone :)
(& enjoy your last day of student transport concession prices if you're 18.)

The perfect accessory for my would be birkinsssss. Oh yesterday I was watching lady gaga videos and I just realised how much high fashion is in there, she's such a genius--- I love her already! Who cares about the flak going on about those armadillo 12-inchers? Personally, as I mentioned, I love them to bits and I would die to wear one in this lifetime. hee.

5 Days to taiwan, my body rotting now. Damn cuiiii, but lucky still got time to rest. Over the past few weeks, i finally watched some movies, like a walk to rememember ( mandy moore's voice is teh sex seriously ), Dark Knight, and Borat ( depicting how ugly Americans truly are? ) More shows to watch, like Before Sunset and The Proposal. Oh well, falling ill not a bad thing too. Justifies me being a couch potato!
